Pratt And Whitney Struggle As They Go Up Against General Electric In Recent Engine Sales

Pratt and Whitney have been going through a rough patch as they there has been a significant complication with their newly innovative gear turbofan engine family. The GTF was destined to be the top competitor for General Electrics as it was not only very fuel efficient but also very ecofriendly.

The GTF was the perfect choice for passenger aircrafts and were wanted by many because of its many traits. With the recent complications, it has endured it has spiked Pratt and Whitney’s sales significantly. It has been observed that General Electric’s sales have been sky rocketing with 10 times more orders to Airbus’ “narrow-body” then Pratt and Whitney.

Pratt and Whitney has been a prime distributor to Airbus as it has installed their GTF into their Airbus A320neo family series aircrafts. The newly innovative GTF engine has experienced manufacturing and technical problems along with extended delivery dates.

A significant event that occurred to IndiGo , an Indian Airline,  due to the malfunction of the engine was having to ground a large amount of their aircraft as they all contained the GTF engines.

Airbus has also experienced a major setback with the hault of the GTF engines as its orders for A320neos have come to a complete stop.  Despite the significant malfunctions that have been addressed stopping the P&W engine to be placed on more planes the P&W officials that the GTF will continue to be the future of engines and aircrafts. As stated by Chris Calio ,“We are confident in the long-term value of our GTF program,” he said.

“We are aggressively addressing our entry- into-service issues and are focused on minimizing the operational impact on our customers are we ramp production. “
