The United States Navy is a service branch of the United States Armed Forces that undertakes the role of naval warfare, power projection, nuclear deterrence, and sealift operations. To help conduct their various operations, the Navy utilizes over 3,700 operational fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft. These aircraft range from those that are meant for transport to combat, and each is designed for a specific role in mind. Attack aircraft are those that are designed to conduct airstrikes and low-level air defenses. Attack aircraft may also be used for close air support and naval air-to-surface operations. The United States Navy has a number of attack aircraft, two examples being the F/A-18C/D Hornet and the EA-18G Growler.

The F/A-18C/D Hornet was manufactured by McDonnell Douglas and Northrop and serves the Navy as both a fighter and an attack aircraft. The typical operations that the F/A-18C/D Hornet undertakes include fleet air defense, escorting, force projection, interdiction, and close air support. The F/A-18C/D Hornet has also already demonstrated its capabilities in past operations, breaking tactical aircraft records during Operation Desert Storm. As an attack aircraft, the F/A-18C/D Hornet is fitted with an M61A1/A2, AIM 9 Sidewinder, AIM 7 Sparrow, AIM-120AMRAAM, harpoon, SLAM, SLAM-ER, Maverick missiles, and more.

The EA-18G Growler is a Navy aircraft that specializes in electronic attack, fitted with an ALQ-218 receiver, ALQ-99 jamming pods, communication countermeasures, and satellite communications to conduct electronic warfare. The EA-18G Growler has been manufactured by Boeing since 2009, and the United States Navy currently remains the primary user. Since their initial release, the EA-18G Growler has partook in multiple operations, their first combat operation being Operation Odyssey Dawn in 2011.
