The United States Marine Corps, or USMS, is a branch of the United States Armed Forces that conducts amphibious and expeditionary warfare. As of 2018, the United States Marine Corps has over 1,300 fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft in their inventory. These aircraft serve the Marine Corps by providing assault and close air support for ground forces, as well as generally supporting the Marine Corps’ amphibious missions. Within the aircraft inventory of the Marine Corps, there are multiple helicopters that are used for a variety of operations and missions. Examples of commonly employed helicopters by the Marine Corps include those such as the AH-1W Super Cobra and the CH-53E Super Stallion.

The AH-1W Super Cobra is a helicopter manufactured by Bell Helicopter and is the first attack helicopter type in the world. Since 1986, the AH-1W Super Cobra has served the armed forces for many operations. The AH-1W Super Cobra has an armament of a gatling cannon, Hydra 70 rockets, Zuni rockets, TOW missiles, AGM-114 Hellfire, and AIM-9 Sidewinder. Currently the AH-1W Super Cobra is set to be replaced by the AH-1Z. Nevertheless, the Super Cobra continues to provide on-call close air support for Marines and pilots may be used to call in artillery and mortars while surveying the battlefield.

The CH-53E Super Stallion is a helicopter produced by Sikorsky and has served as the United States Marine Corps’ main heavy lift helicopter for over 30 years to date. With over 150 units currently in service, the Super Stallion is capable of transporting light armored vehicles that weigh up to 26,000 pounds, over 50 troops, or 16 tons of cargo. The armament of a Sikorsky CH-53E Super Stallion includes three .50 caliber machine guns which may be used for defense and combat.
