The United States Marine Corps Aviation is the arm of the United States Marine Corps that conducts Marine Corps operations with their inventory of fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft. The United States Marine Corps Aviation primarily conducts assault support, offensive air support, electronic warfare, anti air warfare, control of aircraft and missiles, and reconnaissance. Since their initial production in 1981, the AV-8B Harrier II has participated in the Gulf War, Operation Enduring Freedom, the Iraq War, and Operation Odyssey Dawn.
The Sikorsky CH-53E Super Stallion is a heavy-lift cargo helicopter that has over 140 units in service under the United States Marine Corps. As a heavy-lift cargo helicopter, the Sikorsky CH-53E Super Stallion can provide transportation for up to 55 troops, carry 30,000 lb of cargo internally, or externally sling loads of up to 36,000 lb. For armaments, the CH-53E Super Stallion may be fitted with three machine guns at the starboard crew door, port window, and behind the copilot.
