ABB is known by many to be The World Top Bearing Manufacture. In a $60 million-dollar investment, ABB opened a new plant in Senatobia, Mississippi to expand production in the US. The 85,000-square foot manufacturing facility employs over 100 and has plans to increase that number to 300 in coming years. The US plant will focus on connector components that were previously manufactured overseas. Units coming out of the plant will also include products from recently acquired Thomas & Betts.
ABB Inc. is a Swedish and Swiss corporation that operates mainly in the power and automation industry. The expansion in the US market has the goal of bringing reliable and green power solutions to US home and commercial use. Most ABB’s manufacturing, production, and research is currently overseas, but ABB wants to create a US presence to compete with American companies such as GE. By bringing production into the US, ABB can provide better customer service, cheaper prices, and simple logistics to US customers.
The three main ranges launched in the US expansion are: low-voltage power distribution, load protection for residential, and switching solutions. ABB aims to provide safe and consistent energy to critical locations such as data centers, hospitals, and stadiums. In the residential sector, the load protection line will give houses in the US miniature circuit breakers and surge protection devices to home circuits, protecting homeowners and their equipment. More expansion will undoubtedly follow for this Swiss corporation. We can expect to see ABB bring in more product lines to the US such as bearings and mechanical power transmission products. The US is a competitive market for ABB with companies such as GE and Siemens Corp so news is only good for US consumers.
